Culture Across Borders

Cultural Complexity of the Balkans Through Music and Theater

Duration: 90 min

Language: English

The public discussion "Culture Across Borders: Cultural Complexity of the Balkans Through Music and Theater" explores the dynamic interplay between tradition and innovation in the performing arts of the Balkans — a region where diverse histories, identities, and sounds intertwine. Bringing together musicians, composers, and researchers, the discussion examines how vocal and musical traditions both reflect and complicate Balkan identities. From historical tensions and hybridities to questions of political and cultural belonging, participants will consider the role of oral traditions in memory and resistance, and how contemporary artists navigate and reinterpret this multilayered legacy today.
